WINTER OUTFIT IDEAS FOR YOUR NEXT TRIP TO NEW YORK

Are you looking for some winter outfit ideas for your trip to the big apple city? Hey there! You are in the right place! I just got back from a five-day trip to New York, and let me tell you, I finally learned what a real winter is like. Those New Yorker gals were all bundled up in combat boots, wool coats, and cashmere hats because the winter weather is no joke over there. Anyway, I thought I’d share my winter capsule wardrobe that I took with me to New York. Hopefully, it’ll be a helpful guide for anyone wondering what to wear in New York in January, where you’ll encounter snow, rain, and temperatures as low as 30 degrees Fahrenheit.

Creating a Capsule Wardrobe for New York Winter Weather

Some pieces in my New York Winter Capsule Wardrobe were on repeat, while others went untouched. The weather in January was incredibly cold, with temperatures hovering around 25 degrees Fahrenheit. As California residents used to average temperatures of around 70 degrees Fahrenheit, we found the weather in New York to be a bit too chilly for our liking. So, what I’m sharing with you are every winter outfit that we wore repeatedly during our five-day trip to New York.

From Laguardia Airport to SOHO

Day 1-Monday. My mom and I made it to New York City and decided to take advantage of the free bus Q70 from Laguardia Airport to Jackson Heights terminal. From there, we hopped on the subway and made our way to the SOHO district where our hotel was located. After checking in, we took a leisurely stroll around the area and eventually ended up at Lupes Mexican Restaurant for dinner. The food was ok but not amazing but at least we had a great time exploring the city on our first day.

The Staten Island Ferry

Day 2-Tuesday. We headed up to see the Liberty Statue. We took the Staten Island Ferry where you can see the Liberty Statue for free. This ferry runs around the clock, seven days a week. You can grab it from St. George Ferry Terminal, which is situated at 1 Bay Street. It won’t cost you a penny to get on board (but be careful of scammers trying to sell you tickets – just ignore them). When my mom and I went, we took the subway to 1 Bay Street, and we found the terminal right away, you can’t miss the big sign for the Staten Island Ferry.

Washington Square Park & SOHO

Day 3. Wednesday. The weather was so cold that day. We had snow and rain coming down, and the temperature was 20 degrees Fahrenheit. My mom and I felt stir-crazy cooped up in our hotel room, so we decided to take a relaxed walk. We gravitated towards Washington Square Park, where we savored the sights and sounds of the bustling city. Later, we headed to SOHO, where we window-shopped and enjoyed the vibrant atmosphere. All in all, it was a refreshing change of pace from being indoors all day.

DAY 4 – Broadway Show, Time Square and John’s Pizza

Broadway Show, Time Square and John’s Pizza

Day 4. Thursday. On our fourth day, we treated ourselves to a Broadway show at the New Amsterdam Theater. Aladdin was playing, and it was an incredible experience that I would highly recommend. People were flocking to buy tickets, so make sure to purchase them in advance. After the show, we were famished and decided on John’s Pizza, which you might recognize from the Spiderman movie. Since we were already at Times Square, we took a leisurely stroll and basked in the bright lights and positive energy that the city emanates.

Day 5. Friday. On our final day in New York, we headed to SOHO to take some pictures. Afterwards, we hopped on the subway and made our way to the Brooklyn Bridge. There, we stopped by the famous Instagram spot located at the intersection of Washington and Water Streets in Dumbo. There we snapped some photos with the Manhattan bridge in the background. We then took the subway again and visited the Grand Central Terminal where we marveled at the stunning architecture. We ended our day at Los Tacos No. 1. Tacos No. 1 are located just across the street from Grand Central Terminal at 125 Park Ave, New York.
