CAPSULE WARDROBE OFFICE EDITION – HOW TO DRESS LIKE A BOSS LADY
1. Invest on quality tops
This is basic. If you want to achieve a professional and polished look, you to need to spend a little bit more on quality pieces. Choose fabrics such cashmere, cotton, wool and silk. The quality shows, however, this does not mean that you need to break the bank to do so. Everlane has tops with very good quality with affordable prices. Another brand that has stepped out on high quality on their clothing is Banana Republic along with its sister brand Banana Republic Factory. T-shirts, tank tops and white button down shirts are your basics to start a capsule wardrobe for the office environment.
2. Tailored suits
Whether is the pants suit or a skirt suit, either way they will give you the versatility you need in the mornings at the moment to decide what to wear to the office. If it is a suit, you will have the blazer and the bottoms to wear together or separate. I highly recommend that you get a light color suit (beige, ivory, camel colors) and a dark color suit (black, navy blue, smoke gray colors). Again Everlane and Banana Republic to the rescue, both of them have good options for trousers and blazers. Banana Republic offers tailoring services for a fee and they can have your clothing ready within 2 weeks. I personally tried this service at Banana Republic and the service was exceptional.
3. Black Blazer
If you got a tailored suit on black color well, you do not need this, but if you didn’t, your capsule wardrobe for the office is not complete yet. The black blazer is a must, no question about that. I personally own the black 80s blazer from Everlane, it is oversized and the quality is so good. A blazer that will last forever in my closet. Do not underestimate this blazer because is oversized, mine is size 0 and I am obsessed with it. It looks good when I am wearing dresses, with jeans, trousers , skirts, you name it and will automatically give you the professional look that you are looking for to look elegant and classy at the office.
3. Invest on quality knits
Ok, for me a good cashmere sweaters are my go-to for the office, the main reason is that my office is always freezing, the air conditioning is always on and need to coexist with my co-workers, lol. Hey, no complains here because that is the perfect excuse to wear cute sweaters. I personally own all the colors of the Emma cashmere sweater by Club Monaco, it is soft, not itchy and looks amazing with any type of bottoms.
4. The little black dress
The key to find the perfect little black dress is the one that fits you the best. For that you need to make sure to know your body type and base on that choose the dress that suits you the best. A-line dresses are very flattering on body types for instance, but that will depend on how you feel when wearing it. Another tip to take into consideration when choosing the perfect little black dress is that it should not be too tight or too loose, or too short too long. It should not reveal your physical attributes because that can be considered as a distraction to others. This black dress by J. Crew has a fitted silhouette but on a classy way. It looks very professional. It has pockets, lining and falls to knee.
5. Invest on comfortable pumps
Finding the perfect pump that looks cute and that is comfortable at the same time is a challenge. However, I have done all the hard work for you. I found the most comfortable and pretty pump ever that will make you so happy to wear them. I am talking about the VIVAIA pumps. These pumps have almond toe design, true to size, made of fabric and have the perfect kitten heel. Several colors are available.
6. Leather belt
A belt is the perfect accessory to add the touch of sophistication to any outfit. Choose a neutral color belt to mix and match with any of your outfits. There are so many brands that carry good quality genuine leather belts. Here are some of my favorites.
7. Leather Handbag
From designer to high street try to find a bag that is practical and that works with your lifestyle. I invested on a pre-loved Hermes Birkin 35 and I wear it to the office everyday. It makes me happy and I feel so good when I wear it because it is like a trophy. This bag does not have a logo and it is only recognized by fashionistas. On top of that, it fits my laptop, notebooks, sunglasses, a clutch, well it fits all my world in that bag. I found this this tote made of Italian leather by Everlane. This is a very spacious, sturdy bag that can hold 15” laptops, plus all your daily essentials without losing its shape.
